For twenty years Gregory N. Deeter investigated equipment breakdowns for the insurance industry, examining machines that thermal stress had killed and accounting for what it cost to restore or replace them. Twenty years before that he built and supported the systems themselves. He knew what those machines needed, and he saw a way to create it.
